Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School (NLMAS) is committed to protecting the privacy and rights of its students in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a federal legislation established to regulate access and maintenance of student records.
Student Rights under FERPA: As per FERPA, students at NLMAS have the following rights with respect to their education records:
- Inspection of Records:
- Students have the right to inspect their education records.
- Amendment of Records:
- Students may request the amendment of records they believe to be inaccurate.
- Control of Disclosures:
- Students can control disclosures of personally identifiable information in their education records, except as authorized by FERPA.
- Complaint Filing:
- Students have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education regarding alleged failures by the college to comply with FERPA requirements.
Access to Educational Records: Parents, spouses, and significant others do not inherently have the right to access student educational records.

Student Records/Transcripts: A transcript is the official record of a student's work in a program of study, courses, or units, including grades and periods of enrollment. Student records may include transcripts, health verification forms, and other documentation related to coursework and enrollment at NLMAS.
Confidentiality: To ensure confidentiality, student records are stored digitally in NLMAS's student information system (ASAP), accessible only to authorized administration and staff.
Preservation and Security: All records, including academic transcripts, are stored in NLMAS's student information system (ASAP) to guarantee preservation and security against fire, theft, vandalism, and other adverse actions.
Requesting Transcripts: Only adult students (18 years of age or older) may request a copy of their transcript/record. Parent/Legal Guardians of Concurrent students (Under 18 years of age) that are listed on the student emergency card may request a copy of their students’ transcript/record.
NLMAS transcripts can be released, and all transcript requests must be picked up at the Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School front office located at 15711 Pioneer Blvd, Norwalk, CA 90650.
